Bournemouth celebrates English Tourism Week, 25 March – 2 April

Special events, a big wheel & the chance to win a Beach Lodge holiday!

As an award winning UK destination, it is fitting that Bournemouth is celebrating English Tourism Week (25 March – 2 April) – with a host of fun events located in some of the resort’s most picturesque locations, the return of the big wheel and a competition to win a stay in one of the brand new Beach Lodges.

To kick it all off, the seafront will be welcoming back the hugely popular Bournemouth Wheel. From 23 March to 5 September, visitors and residents will again be able to enjoy stunning, panoramic views of the coast more than 100 feet up in the air. A very exciting addition to the town for the summer season that is sure to gain much attraction far and wide.

On 26 March, the first ever Sandstorm

will transform Bournemouth Beach into the ultimate outdoor adventure assault course. With 20 obstacles over a 5K circuit, this one-day-only event is organised by the RNLI and will see participants battle the sandy terrain, facing thrilling obstacles specially designed to push the limits of both physical and mental endurance.
Showcasing Bournemouth’s cultural delights, the Russell-Cotes Arts Gallery & Museum Meeting Modernism vibrant new exhibition is perfect for those wanting to explore the fascinating history and culture of Bournemouth. English Tourism Week coincides with the final days of the successful Meeting Modernism exhibition. Step back to the 1930s and 40s and take a glimpse at a rarely seen 20th century collection of locally-based artists.

Family fun oozes from every corner in Bournemouth and the Bournemouth Bay Run is a fantastic opportunity for whole family to get active, do their bit for charity and of course, have fun. In association with the British Heart Foundation, the Bay Run takes place on Sunday 2 April and is celebrating its 35th anniversary. In honour of this, the theme for the run will be the 1980s, with runners being invited to dress up in outfits from the 80s – leg warmers and tutus galore!

Jon Weaver, Head of Resort at Bournemouth Tourism said: “Bournemouth takes pride in being a destination that offers a wide variety of invigorating and inspiring holiday experiences – from family fun on our sandy beaches to outdoor adventure, cultural delights and of course an array of award-winning festivals.

“We are thrilled to be hosting some fantastic events in honour of English Tourism Week. The Bay Run and Sandstorm are a great showcase for Bournemouth’s busy schedule of events and the perfect precursors to two of the resort’s most popular festivals – the Arts by the Sea Festival and Bournemouth Air Festival.”

There will also be an opportunity to win a 4 night stay for up to 6 people in the stunning new Bournemouth Beach Lodges – a competition specially designed to celebrate English Tourism Week. The competition will be running from 25 March to 3 April and entrants can able to enter online at www.bournemouth.co.uk/etw.*
