The beach at Alum Chine is sometimes quieter than the beaches closer to Bournemouth town centre but is equally as sandy and inviting!
In fact the beach here is of top quality, being a blue flag holder, with glorious golden sand and crystal clear waters, making it popular with families.
The Alum Chine Tropical Gardens are just a short walk away behind the promenade and the beautiful Alum Chine is a lovely walk through a wooded area up to the popular Westbourne area of Bournemouth.
Operating the Kidzone scheme and fully patrolled by lifeguards during the season, it is very child friendly making it a safe place for families enjoying a day out.
The land train runs from here to Bournemouth pier along the promenade.
And finally children will just love the “Treasure Island” play area and paddling pool, a pirate themed playground just up slightly from the beach.
Beach barbeques are permitted after 6pm to the western side of the main beach, between groynes 3 and 4. Just please remember to dispose of your remains carefully and take all rubbish with you. Only charcoal or gas BBQ’s can be used, there cannot be open fires and BBQ’s must take place within 50 metres of the metal bins which are provided at Alum Chine for cooled down BBQ’s.
Alum Chine beach has a number of beautiful beach huts for hire either on a daily or weekly period. The daily charge varies from £10.00 to £43.00 a day depending upon the time of year. Weekly charges also vary between £38.00 and £175.00 a week and they also offer “block” periods. Full pricing details can be found on the Bournemouth Seafront website and booking can be made by telephoning 0845 055 0968. You may also find some beach hut tenants that rent out their beach huts directly.
Dog owners will be pleased to know that their furry friend is welcome here in the designated areas. This is between the Alum Chine Beach office (groyne 3) and the border with Poole’s first beach, Branksome Dene Chine beach. However Branksome Dene Chine beach is dog friendly all year round so you may want to head straight to that one. Please remember though to clean up after your dog.
There is a car park next to the beach and a bus stop with buses running into Bournemouth.
