August bank holiday is traditionally the last big blowout of the summer – so Suzi Dixon from BournemouthNews.info has some top tips for those looking to hit the clubs to celebrate.
It’s sad to say goodbye to the summer season – but August Bank Holiday Sunday is one of my favourite times to go out in Bournemouth, with a plethora of good vibes and fun times in Bournemouth town centre.
Top of my list this year is the 25th anniversary of Jazz Juice at Canvas, on Poole Hill. I went to Jazz Juice during my university years and am delighted to see it is still going strong and has found the perfect new venue in Canvas, Bournemouth’s only loft bar. The mix is simple – great tunes, sampling the best of the 1970s and onwards to ramp up the funk and fill the dancefloor from start to finish. It has all the ingredients of a classic club night. Nostalgia, enthusiasm and expertise from the promoters and venue team and a healthy injection of cocktails. My top tip? Try the Canvas team’s new gin infusions, they are really something special.
The evolution of Old Christchurch Road continues with a Thai Full Moon party at Walkabout. The music is more commercial, as you’d expect, and the vibe is full-on fun. RnB and house music are always crowd pleasers and you can expect fab drink promotions and lively staff to up the atmosphere.
Finally, Bump N Hustle at Bar So is another long-running Bournemouth club night that is celebrating 25 years of funk and funk. It, too, has found a new venue in recent years and now, you can’t imagine anywhere better than the club at the Royal Exeter Hotel to host the night. Soul, funk and RnB sounds are the order of the day and DJs including the amazing Grant Nelson will be in charge of the tunes.
