The beaches of Bournemouth and Poole like to welcome your canine friend but please be aware that there are regulations in place.
Dogs can enjoy the beach freely throughout the winter season which is from 1st October to 30th April. However between 1st May and 30th September dogs are only permitted on certain parts of the beach:
Beaches in Bournemouth…
Dogs are allowed at Alum Chine beach between the Alum Chine beach office (groyne 3) and the border with Poole’s first beach, Branksome Dene Chine beach.
At Durley Chine beach dogs are only permitted between groynes 5 (middle chine) and groyne 7.
From groyne 32 on Fishermans Walk beach to groyne 41 on Southbourne beach.
And finally from Groyne 45 to Hengistbury head beach
Beaches in Poole…
Dogs are permitted from the western end of Sandbanks beach to Haven Point (by the chain ferry).
They are also allowed from the beach office at Branksome Chine beach to the border with Branksome Dene Chine beach.
Dogs are allowed all year round, without restrictions, at the following beaches in Poole:
Branksome Dene Chine beach
Hamworthy Park beach
Lake Drive beach
Rockley Point beach
If you are unsure then please look out for the signs or enquire at the local beach office.
Also dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when on the promenade and paths between 1st May and 30th September.
Please ensure that you keep your dog under control and carry a lead with you at all times. And of course, please keep our beaches beautiful by cleaning up any dog mess. Bins are provided and the beach offices can usually provide doggy bags if you have forgotton one. Checks are undertaken and you could get fined if you fail to clean up after your dog or you allow your dog to cause a nuisance to others.
Finally please remember that the heat can cause serious problems for dogs that may be left in cars along the seafront, so please don’t do it.
