PAVILION DANCE’S AUTUMN SEASON BRINGS A COLLISION OF DANCE, MOVEMENT, MUSIC, FUN, RAGE, JOY & CABARET!

Pavilion Dance are ramping up for their Autumn season with artists and performances across multiple genres.  From emerging choreographers to mid-life crisis clowns raging against the machine, a tangled octopus on a seaside adventure and time travelling tales of queer joy, their programme has something for everyone. With a flash mob cherry on top!

Bringing the surreal and nostalgic, alongside street dance and tradition is Messums 4X20, a quadruple dance theatre bill featuring emerging choreographers Chandenie Gobardhan & John-William Watson. Launching a diverse season of performances and participation including A Queer Collision by Stuart Waters to the Strictly style Business Come Dancing fundraiser and a community led flash mob dance opportunity at Bournemouth’s Arts by the Sea festival.

Messums 4×20 – 29th September

Messums 4×20 platform presents the latest choreographic talent and innovation from two exciting emerging artists Chandenie Gobardhan and John-William Watson in this entertaining quadruple bill.  Inspired by multiple movement practices, these pieces explore the surreal, the traditional, nostalgia and human experience.  Premiered at Messums Wiltshire this summer, this is one not to miss this Autumn.

Break Down the Walls at Arts By the Sea – 1st October

BREAK DOWN WALLS is a moment in movement. A community driven flash mob dance for everyone to perform at Arts by the Sea festival in Bournemouth Gardens and Pier Approach. Everyone is invited to learn the moves and join in to have their very own MOMENT. Watch the tutorial videos on Arts by the Sea website.

Northern Soul Workshops – 7th – 21st October

Northern Soul world champion Sally Molloy is bringing Northern Soul to the South!  Through

three 2-hour workshops she will be taking participants to the heart and heritage of this soulful dance style.

Surge & SUB: Version by Tom Dale Company – 13th October

This is a visually stunning double-bill where dance meets electronic music, featuring an immersive genre-breaking performance where dancer and animated light create a gripping, sensory experience. SUB:VERSION is an elegant selection of dance sketches weaving a hypnotic journey through electronic music sub-genres, exploring the pleasure of moving to music, and the limitless possibilities that music can evoke.

Super Hot Hot Dog – 21st October

A holiday adventure to remember! Super Hot Hot Dog takes audiences on a seaside holiday trip full of fun and surprises, meeting colorful characters along the way from the ice cream seller who dances his favourite flavours, and the wise yet tangled octopus. Super Hot Hot Dog is a famil-friendly performance, including adults and young people with a learning disability, and those who identify as neurodiverse.

October Ceilidh – 28th October

Returning to our Ceilidh line-up for a second year, ‘Banter’ is all about having a great night of traditional English dance tunes and songs, played with a cheeky twist.

The Rest of Our Lives by Jo Fong and George Orange – 3rd November

A joyful dose of dance, theatre, circus, and games, this performance sees two middle-aged individuals, Jo the dancer and an old clown named George, experience an eclectic, spontaneous, predictable, and random decline. Join them as they age against the machine in this cabaret of life and near death.

Business Come Dancing Gala Fundraiser – 25th November

“This has been one of the best things I have ever done. The journey has been unforgettable” – Kerry Houston-Kypta, Coles Miller.

Pavilion Dance’s annual fundraising dance competition is back with a sprinkle of glitz and glamour for 2023. Participants include members of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole business community raising money for worthwhile community dance and wellbeing projects. 

A Queer Collision by Stuart Waters – 1st December

A Queer Collisionis a timeline of queer joy: a collision of personal and historical queer stories, both poignant and funny.  Against a backdrop of LBGTQIA+ social history, Stuart Waters and Willie Elliott take us on a journey through their own tales of mischief, misadventure and men using dance, spoken word and comedy. Audio description has been embedded into the creative process, to create an experience that is resonant and accessible for those with and without visual impairment.

Advent Adventure by Olivia Quayle & Claire Benson – 16th – 18th December

Back for 2023 this popular Christmas show for children created and led by dance artists Claire Benson and Olivia Quayle is full of festive making, moving, and grooving. This fun, Christmas-themed experience has an assortment of things to watch and do from party hat making and Christmas crafting before peeking through the advent door for Christmas theatre magic. 

New Year Ceilidh with Bow and Box – 31st December

Bow and Box are back for New Years Eve.  This dynamic folk duo specialise in delivering unique Ceilidh experiences with powerful rhythms and energy to get the crowd on the New Year dancefloor with caller Tom Gregory back calling the moves.

Our seaside creative hub in Bournemouth is home to our dancing community, with our historic seafront building home to two modern dance studios and a 197-seat theatre.

Through theatre and outdoor performances, weekly dance classes, in-school workshops, social dance events, screenings, and many other activities, we welcome people of all backgrounds to experience the embodied joy of dancing.
