Santa and his elves will be arriving on Southbourne’s Green on 1st December and, to welcome them, there’ll be mulled wine, mince pies and a chance to win raffle prizes for visitors and shoppers.
Christmas will well and truly start in Southbourne with the arrival of Santa and his elves on the Green on Saturday 1st December. These very special visitors from the North Pole will be making a Southbourne stop-over as part of a fun day of festive activities to start the Christmas month.
From 10.00am – 3.30pm, Southbourne’s Green will be bustling with seasonal surprises for visitors and shoppers. Little ones will be able to meet Santa and his elves, whilst grown-ups will have the opportunity to sample warming mulled wine and locally made mince pies as well as having the chance to win some spectacular prizes in the Christmas raffle.
The following day, Sunday 2nd December, from 1.30pm – 4.30pm, there’ll be a traditional Carol Service with a difference at Southbourne’s Immanuel Church when the congregation and choir will be joined by a brass band as well.
Paul Clarke is Chairman of Bournemouth Coastal BID, one of the main supporters and organisers of Southbourne’s Christmas celebrations. Paul said:
“Southbourne is already looking and feeling very festive with its wonderful avenue of Christmas trees. Its many high street and independent shops have really entered the Christmas spirit. And, of course, the postal service has been very busy dealing with all the letters to Santa that children have been posting in the special letterbox on the Community Green. The start of the Christmas month, 1st December, is always a little bit special. We wanted to mark the date with a day of festive fun that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors of all ages and bring even more customers into the town.”
1st December is also the date of Small Business Saturday, a national non-commercial campaign, actively supported by the Coastal BID. Small Business Saturday is designed to highlight the success and innovation of small businesses around the UK and encourage consumers to ‘shop local’. With Southbourne’s diverse and interesting mix of independent businesses and High Street names plus all its Christmas activities, there are plenty of incentives to ‘shop local’.
Bournemouth’s Coastal BID area runs from Westbourne to Hengistbury Head and works to generate more visitors to the area and to support and promote its many diverse and innovative businesses. In the run up to Christmas, there will be free parking on a number of key dates, making buying those all-important gifts easier for shoppers.
