Boscombe’s Christmas Celebrations start in earnest on Saturday 1st December with Santa’s arrival at his Grotto, followed by the Christmas Parade and the festive presence of the continental Christmas market.
“You’d better watch out, you’d better not cry, you’d better not pout, I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to…” Boscombe on Saturday 1st December! The festive fun starts at 9.45am when Santa in his sleigh will travel from Boscombe Pier to the Sovereign Centre to open his Grotto at 10.00am. This year, Santa and his elves have excelled themselves. With a little help from Rotary Westbourne and Sovereign Shopping Centre, they have created an exciting walk-through fantasy cavern, leading to the Grotto, with animatronic Christmas characters and animals which are sure to delight and enthral younger visitors to the town. Santa will be in residence to receive visits from children and give out gifts until 22nd December.
At 4.30pm on the same day, Boscombe’s bustling high street will be even busier than usual as people flock to watch and take part in the town’s annual Christmas Parade: a fantastic festive spectacle of lights, costumes and music.
Also opening on this first festive day until Thursday 20th December, is the Continental Christmas celebrating Boscombe’s diverse and bohemian community. Featuring artisanal goods such as an Estonian Christmas Crown plus traditional foods like the deliciously-sweet sugar-and-cinnamon-coated Chimney Cake, a custom that dates back to medieval times, the Continental Christmas is a wonderful showcase for Boscombe’s many Eastern European businesses.
Bournemouth’s Coastal BID is one of the organisations supporting Boscombe’s seasonal festivities.
Paul Clarke, Chairman, said:
“Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of the year, bringing friends and families together – and of course, it’s marvellous for retailers too. We are sure this year’s celebrations will bring lots of residents and visitors into Boscombe to enjoy the Christmas sights and sounds. And with so many fantastic shops and the Continental stalls, they’ll be able to buy some really interesting, unique gifts. There really is something for everyone from children to pensioners.”
