Did you know one of the UK’s top professional orchestras is based right here in Dorset?
Considered to be ‘the cultural heartbeat of the South West’, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra perform over 140 full symphonic concerts each year across their home territory of 10,000 square miles.
You can find the BSO every Wednesday night from October through to May at their home of the Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts. Their 23 main season concerts see them joined by a rotating cast of world-renowned soloists and conductors performing an extensive repertoire – you will really be surprised by how many of these classical pieces you recognise!
If a traditional symphonic concert doesn’t quite appeal to you, BSO Pops Concerts offer music for everybody, showcasing popular classics and familiar tunes. From the soundtracks to some of the greatest films of all time to symphonic celebrations of the world’s biggest pop bands. As well as a selection of festive favourites fit for all the family throughout the holiday season!
Throughout the rest of the year, they can be found all throughout the South and Southwest. From village halls and community spaces with BSO On Your Doorstep, bringing smaller ensembles to venues near you, to Bournemouth’s Meyrick Park for their annual Proms in the Park and over to Exeter, Portsmouth, Bristol and beyond! Alongside their busy concert schedule, BSO Participate deliver events in over 200 locations across 23 Local Authority areas.
