Learn, explore and connect with nature in an award winning walled garden, hidden amongst the rolling hills of Isle of Purbeck, Dorset.
Careys Secret Garden left wild (and most definitely untamed) for far too long, is gently coming back to life.
Beyond a productive and beautiful garden, Careys Secret Garden is a space to grow skills and inspiration through their unique events. The Secret Garden hosts events throughout the year, from Horse Logging, to Scented Gardening, Mushroom Foraging to Moth Identification, Bird Song to Clay Workshops, and Permaculture to Propagation. Please visit the Events page to see what’s coming up.
The Bioregion of The Purbecks – the plant life, soil, wildlife, and humans that fill it – dictate a lot of the decisions made at Careys. From what they grow, to the fertiliser they use, from how the surrounding woodland is managed to the skills they recruit. Understanding and building these connections and community is fundamental to Careys shared flourishing.
The Secret Salt Pig coffee shop within the walls of the garden (in the old ‘Tatty Store’) offers a delicious range of light vegetarian refreshments, cakes, ice cream, and the BEST coffee! Please bring your own reusable mug to help keep waste to a minimum.
Careys Secret Garden is also home to the Southern UK’s only pair of nesting Ospreys (CJ7 and 022), expert-led guided tours are available to view the protected birds via the Birds of Poole Harbour website.
The walled garden is open each week on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am. Please see website for 2025 ticket prices, opening times, Garden Tour information, courses and events.
Annual memberships and vouchers make great gift ideas and offer brilliant discounts on admission and events.
