About
Sandbanks Beach is a small, sandy peninsula which has been awarded the Blue Flag for over 30 years. It is also designated by the EC as one of the few areas within the UK that has achieved the highest standard of cleanliness.
Regarded as one of the best beaches in the country, Sandbanks has beautiful golden sand and tempting shallow waters.
Sandbanks is also known has having the 4th highest land value, by area, in the world and has been dubbed Britain’s “Monte Carlo”!
As you would expect from an area so expensive, Sandbanks is maintained to an exceptionally high standard.
In addition to its beautiful beach there is also a crazy golf course, putting green, a children’s play area, volleyball hire and watersports.
At the end of the peninsula is the Haven Hotel whilst at the other end is the Sandbanks Hotel, both of which are open to non-residents and perfect for chilling out at after a day in the sun.
Families will be glad to hear that the beach is patrolled by lifeguards and has plenty of facilities including showers, toilets and shops. Beach wheelchairs are available from Sandbanks beach offices between 9:30am and 4:30pm, from May to September. You will have to pay a £50 cash deposit.
There are also a large selection of beach huts, perfect for a day out at the beach. These beach huts are available to hire by the day or by the week from Poole council, although some are available directly from the beach hut tenants. To book a beach hut in Poole you can do so online via the Poole.gov website
Barbeques can be held between 6pm and 10.30pm. Please dispose of all rubbish responsibly in the bins provided but remember to douse disposable barbecues with water after use and leave them next to the rubbish bins on the promenade for the beach cleansing team to collect once they have cooled down. Only disposable barbecues are permitted, no gas barbecues or open fires.
Sandbanks has a dog friendly section which is to the western end of the beach to Haven Point (by the chain ferry). Dogs are allowed on this bit of the beach all year round. However please be aware that the currents here can get quite strong so be carefully if your dog is keen on water! On other sections of the beach they are only permitted out of season, therefore no dogs allowed between May and the end of September.
At the end of the peninsula is the Sandbanks Chain Ferry which crosses the Poole harbour entrance over to Studland. There are also a number of cruises available such as around the bay, over to Brownsea Island and across to Swanage.
There is a large car park by the beach and also on-road parking just a short walk away.
