One of Poole’s most popular beaches, Shore Road beach is a beautiful golden sandy beach on the opposite side of Poole harbour.
The beach is very safe for those of you with children, with a gradual slope into the clean waters and is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer season of 1st May to 30th September.
The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag meaning the beach and the surrounding waters have achieved the highest quality in water, environmental education, safety and management.
The beach is popular with those interested in watersports with a number of water sports hire shops located nearby.
The promenade stretches for miles but if you are not in the mood to walk why not just sit back, admire the view and watch the world go by! For those interested in cycling the promenade starts here and goes all the way to Hengistbury Head however please note that cycling is not allowed in July and August between 10.00am and 6.00pm.
Shore Road Beach is dog-friendly but only out of season, therefore between May and September dogs are not permitted on the beach itself, however they are still welcome along the promenade provided they are on a lead.
Barbeques are permitted, without permission, after 6pm for groups of up to 12 people. BBQ’s and all rubbish should be cleared away by 11.00pm. Please choose your spot carefully and ensure that you dispose of your remains sensibly. For parties greater than 12 people permission must first be sought from Poole Council 7 days in advance.
There are also a large selection of beach huts, perfect for a day out at the beach. These beach huts are available to hire by the day or by the week from Poole council, although some are available directly from the beach hut tenants. To book a beach hut in Poole you can do so online via the Borough of Poole’s website
Parking can be found on Shore Road and Banks Road (around the harbour) although please be aware that this can fill up quickly, especially on hot days! Both are not particularly cheap and they are metered but they are very close to the beach giving you more time to enjoy the sand and sea!
