Southbourne beach is mainly sandy with some shingle and is another Blue Flag winner.
It is popular with locals as it tends to be quieter than the main Bournemouth beach and the water here is renowned for being very safe for bathers.
Nearly 4 miles from Bournemouth, the promenade offers a lovely relaxing walk.
The beach is excellent for families as it is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer season.
Water sports are also on offer and cycling is permitted along the promenade except during July and August.
There are various food outlets serving both dine in and take-away food and if you have forgotten something then the beach shop stocks all those necessary beach accessories!
Southbourne beach has a number of beautiful beach huts for hire either on a daily or weekly period. The daily and weekly charge varies depending upon the time of year and they also offer “block” periods. You may also find some beach hut tenants that rent out their beach huts directly.
The beach is also dog friendly with a dedicated exercise area if coming along from the west from Fisherman’s Walk beach. There is also a section further along towards Hengistbury head. Please check for the relevant signposted areas.
Barbeques are permitted after 6pm and the beach has a dedicated BBQ zone. Please ensure that you dowse hot coals first before disposing and take all rubbish with you. For BBQ’s of more that 30 people an application must first be submitted to the council.
There are a 2 car parks next to the beach with parking also available in surrounding streets.
