Trains to Bournemouth and Poole | Train Station Information

The main service between Bournemouth and Poole is operated by South Western Railway and London can be reached in just 1 hour and 50 minutes from Bournemouth. The line also serves Southampton, Winchester and Basingstoke to the east and Wareham, Dorchester and Weymouth to the west.

Direct trains can also be taken to Oxford, Reading, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Manchester with CrossCountry trains, and of course most of the UK can be reached by changing at other stations.

Getting between Bournemouth and Poole by train is easy with both Bournemouth railway station and Poole railway station being conveniently located near the town centre’s.

There are also stations at Branksome, Parkstone and Hamworthy in Poole, before reaching the stations at Holton Heath and Wareham. Heading in the other direction you will find Pokesdown station, which serves Boscombe, and further on Christchurch station.

The New Forest is just on our doorstep and after Christchurch the train line heads through the New Forest with stations at New Milton, Sway, Brockenhurst, Beaulieu and Ashurst before onto Southampton, handy for the airport and cruise ferries!

Bournemouth train station is also known as the Bournemouth Travel Interchange, the main hub for all trains, coaches and buses feeding into Bournemouth. The station is located approximately 1.2 miles from Bournemouth town centre, or roughly a 20 minute walk.

Of course if you don’t fancy walking then there is a taxi rank and of course with it being the travel interchange numerous buses stop here.

morebus have a number of routes stopping here.
The M1 bus will take you into Bournemouth town centre and then goes onto Poole. Heading the other way it will take you to Charminster.

Poole train station is located just a 10 minute walk from the town centre and the bus station. Heading the other way Poole Quay is also just a 10 minute walk with the Poole ferry terminal being about a 20 minute walk. But if you don’t fancy walking the Route One bus stops outside the train station and will take you to the bus station and the quay.

The morebus buses will take you to Christchurch town centre and Bournemouth town centre however the stops for these are at Fairfield, just 5 minutes walk from the station.

If you prefer walking it is approximately 0.6 miles to Christchurch town centre and just under a mile to the quay.

Pokesdown is an inaccessible station to wheelchair users and customers are advised to use Bournemouth station.

Bus routes to Bournemouth town centre are the M2 from More buses. These buses will also take you to Boscombe bus station.

Boscombe town centre is just over half a mile away and Boscombe pier is approximately a 15 minute walk.

Branksome Station in Poole is actually closer to Bournemouth town centre than Poole with Bournemouth about 2 miles away whilst Poole is around 3 miles.
The station is conveniently located for the popular Westbourne area of Bournemouth which is about 1 mile away.
Bus routes M1 and M2 from More buses stop on the main road just outside the station and all go to Bournemouth or Poole town centre’s.

Parkstone Train Station serves the Parkstone area of Poole, approximately 1.5 miles from Poole town centre.
There are no buses that run from this station, the nearest bus stops are on Bournemouth Road, close to the junction with Church Road. Route M1 from Morebus will then take you either to Poole or Bournemouth.

The nearest bus stop is on Turlin Road, about a 5 minute walk, and the number 8 and 9 routes from More buses will take you into the centre of Poole.

This station serves the Holton Heath area of Sandford/Wareham.
It is not staffed and a Permit to Travel machine is in operation. Please purchase a permit and exchange it for a ticket on train.
Please note that this station has limited Mobility/Accessibility access.
The nearest bus stop is about half a mile away outside the Sandford Holiday Park on Organford Road. The number 40 Purbeck Breezer bus from morebus will take you to Poole town centre, or to Swanage the other way.
