About
The south-coast’s annual celebration of arts and culture Arts by the Sea Festival will return for another exciting instalment of inclusive art and performance this autumn, running from Friday 29th September till Sunday 1st October.
This year, the theme for Arts by the Sea Festival is ‘Take a MOMENT’
With modern life we often find ourselves too busy to take time for ourselves. This year, Arts by the Sea invites you to take a MOMENT and be present.
For one weekend from 29th September to 1st October we’ll transform Bournemouth’s Town Centre. You’ll find artists, performers and musicians both local and national, who’ll use the power of creativity to enable you to connect to your own unique MOMENT…
Some of the acts announced include:
PORTAL By Lucid Creates, Bournemouth Beach 27th September – 4th October, 24 hours
Commissioned exclusively for Arts by the Sea, PORTAL is a large-scale art installation, towering 15m high above visitors below and created to evoke awe and wonder. It is both a monument and a beacon of light and hope. Its vast, giant archway is lined with lights which move and shift to create a mesmerising and ethereal display of glowing light and patterns.
A locally sourced AV show – Curated & Mixed by DJ Yoda, Civic Centre, Friday 29th September, 19:30 – 19:50
In a one off, 20 minute bespoke performance, the respected DJ Yoda will perform a live bespoke audio – visual spectacular featuring video moments taken from across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. This will be the first time DJ Yoda’s work has been projected onto an object so large, which along with the audio-visual content being completely exclusive, makes this a very special premiere for Bournemouth
The Media Workshop, Civic Centre, Friday 29th September – Sunday 1st October, 18:00 – 22:00
Digital arts collective The Media Workshop are the creatives behind this year’s headline spectacular at the Civic Centre. A colourful projection mapping of 3D images and video will appear on the building’s facade for guests to get lost in while following a bespoke story unfolding around the theme of MOMENT.
Big Gay Disco Bike by Fatt Projects, Lower Gardens, 30th September – 1st October, Various Times
Big Gay Disco Bike is exactly what it sounds like: a feel good pop-up big gay disco performed on a bike. Festival goers can join the cabaret superstars, vocal powerhouses and drag icons in the making on the golden disco bike as they bring the D-I-S-C-O directly to the streets at Arts by the Sea. Catch them as the walkabout Bournemouth’s central areas!
Kings Ramp Skatepark, Town Square, 29th September – 1st October, 11:00 – 21:00
The Pop Up Skate Park and half pipe is back at Arts by the Sea after being a highlight experience in 2022. Hosted again by the world class King Ramps skate events company, visitors can marvel at the gravity-defying tricks and stunts by pro skateboarders and BMXers.
The Hush Club, Various Locations, Friday 29th September – Sunday 1st October, Various Times
Bournemouth’s much-loved party brand, The Hush Club will be staging this year’s festival in all its party starting glory. To kick start the party on Friday night, The Hush Club is bringing its famous sequin box to serve up cocktails, beers and soft drinks for guests all to linger and enjoy the rolling projections all night long.
An engaging and curious dance performance, Black Victorians highlights and celebrates the diverse black presences in 19th and early 20th Century Britain.
