Dolphin Centre’s Eco Hub to host dementia-friendly performance by players of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) are holding a free dementia-friendly performance at the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s Eco Hub on Friday 22 November from 10.30am – 11.30am.
Featuring live music performed by a trio of players, the BSO’s Cake Concerts are specially developed for people living with dementia to encourage and enable them to experience the power of music. This shortened performance will be a free ‘taster’ of the full-length Cake Concerts that the BSO hold on a monthly basis across the area.
Working closely with Alzheimer’s Society, the BSO has designed its series of Cake Concerts specifically to cater to the needs of those living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers. The concerts feature a trio of flute, harp and piano alongside tea and cake. The events have a profound effect on movement and communication amongst audience members, creating a positive shared experience for all who attend.
Ben Jennings, BSO Participate Programme Manager said: “Our Cake Concerts are incredibly popular with people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers. We are delighted to be offering a free ‘taster’ at the Dolphin Centre and would encourage anyone who comes along and enjoys it to come to one of our full-length Cake Concerts.”
John Grinnell, Dolphin Shopping Centre manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome the world-renowned Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to the Centre’s Echo Hub. The work that the BSO are doing to engage with people living with dementia is truly admirable, and we are very pleased to be able to support them at the Eco Hub.”
The Eco Hub launched in 2018 as a free community space for customers and local organisations to use for a variety of events. Earlier this year, community fridges were installed in the Eco Hub to enable members of the public to donate unwanted, sealed food to prevent it from being thrown away.
