Parry 100 Festival
September 29 - October 7
The Parry 100 Festival commemorates the 100th anniversary of the death of the Bournemouth-born composer Sir Hubert Parry, who wrote the popular anthem ‘Jerusalem’.
Sir Hubert who was born in a house on Richmond Hill, Bournemouth in 1848 and Christened at St Peter’s church died in October 1918.
Performances at the Parry 100 Festival will include the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Bath Sinfonietta, The Carice Singers, Graham Thorp, The Mike Westbrook Group and Choir, soprano Caren Courts with pianist Sam Hanson, and violinist, Jennifer Pike.
Jennifer was the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year at the tender age of 12, and also won the BBC New Generation Artist amongst other prestigious awards. There will also be a performance by the Rising Voices Wessex Choir who are community choirs set up to help individuals recover after treatment for cancer or to help those affected by the experience of cancer in the family. A retiring collection will be held to support their valuable work.
