The word ‘salve’ comes from the Latin verb salvere, meaning ‘to be well’. The Romans used it as a command (‘Be well!’) when they wanted to wish someone good …
At this hands-on workshop, we will not only be wishing you to ‘be well’, but you will also be learning how to make a healing balm using an ancient Roman/Greek recipe – this balm can be used on cuts, grazes and insect bites etc.
This herbal remedy workshop will start with a walk around the herb garden and then move to our Reclaimed Barn where you will learn about making herbal infused oils just as the Romans did.
You will be making your own jar of herbal infused oil to take home followed by a demonstration of how to use it to make a Roman Healing Salve and a Roman Joint Salve. You will be given a complimentary 15ml tin of Lorraine’s Roman Salve made in the workshop to take home.
Careys Secret Garden is approx. 5 minutes drive from Wareham Train Station, detailed directions will be sent to you with your booking confirmation…after all, it is a secret!
