We return this July 2019 for two more days of high adrenaline polo played on glorious Sandbanks beach.
‘The matches are fast and furious, and the extra-large orange ball, designed not to get lost in the sand, flies around at speeds of up to 100mph.’
The polo at Sandbanks (the British Beach Polo Championships) is the largest beach polo event in the world. When polo is played in an enclosed arena it has been referred to as ‘Ice Hockey on Horse Back’. Spectators are close to the action – they can fully appreciate the horsemanship, speed and gladiatorial nature of polo. The polo ponies love the sand – they can accelerate and stop fast and can turn extremely sharply.
The thrill and excitement of horses galloping on the sand with the English Channel as a backdrop, whilst sipping champagne amongst glamorous company, is a vision to remember – an intoxicating mix. Polo players engage with the sponsors and spectators both on and off the pitch.
‘You simply cannot beat the polo at Sandbanks. It attracts some of the world’s top players who stay to party into the early hours alongside the fashionable crowd’
Jodie Kidd. Model & polo player
The beach parties that wrap up both days are legendary. Kicking off at 7.00pm with the last of the revellers leaving the beach at 1am top DJ’s and live bands entertain the huge crowds that stay on for the evening.
A great opportunity to mingle with the players and celebrities and not to be missed.
‘Only one sport is glamorous enough for the platinum peninsula of Sandbanks’
Sandbanks is probably the most exclusive beach community in the UK. The infamous peninsular extends out across Poole Harbour on the scenic Dorset coast. It boasts upmarket luxurious homes and pristine ‘Blue Flag’ beaches.
Poole is easily accessible with a fast rail connection (100 minutes direct from London Waterloo), good road access (30 minutes from Southampton) and 2 International airports within 45 minutes.
We have various tickets available from weekend passes to VIP.
Why not upgrade your experience to the very best? Hospitality guests have their own exclusive marquee and the afternoon starts with a champagne reception.
This is followed by a delicious lunch prepared by our award winning caterers. When the polo is truly underway you’ll have afternoon tea and if you have the stamina you can join us for the VIP party later on.
Our VIP guests can reserve a table providing a base for the day and evening, or just book VIP tickets so you can be at the heart of the action at all times.
