About
Fancy watching a film where the soundtrack is composed live, in the same room as you? A hundred years after the release of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923 silent / black & white film) international, multi-award-winning organist, Aaron Hawthorne, will be terrifying audiences with his inimitable improvisational accompaniment to this spine-chilling film. Featuring the thunderous Compton pipe organ of Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre, this spooky night out is the perfect Halloween (trick or) treat!
Film Synopsis:
In 15th-century Paris, Jehan (Brandon Hurst), the evil brother of the archdeacon, lusts after a Gypsy named Esmeralda (Patsy Ruth Miller) and commands the hunchback Quasimodo (Lon Chaney) to capture her. Military captain Phoebus (Norman Kerry) also loves Esmeralda and rescues her, but the Gypsy is not unsympathetic to Quasimodo’s condition, and an unlikely bond forms between them. After vengeful Jehan frames Esmeralda for the attempted murder of Phoebus, Quasimodo’s feelings are put to the test.
Artist Info:
Aaron Hawthorne has quickly made a name for himself as one of the UK’s favourite accompanists for silent film. He has been invited to perform his improvised accompaniments across venues in the UK, mainland Europe and the USA. This is Aaron’s second UK+ silent film tour, having toured with The Phantom of the Opera (1925) in 2021, and Nosferatu in 2022 which left intergenerational audiences wowed and craving more of this “not-on-Netflix” experience.
