Coastal Cruises Poole is bringing a whole new meaning to eating out with the launch of Street Food at Sea – a new series of themed food cruises combining flavours from around the world with an evening sailing through Poole Harbour.
And the family-run cruise company is now calling on local caterers, chefs and street food businesses to get involved.
The new series will see a programme of themed cruises featuring food inspired by destinations across the globe, with ideas including Mexican Taco Night, Greek Gyros & Souvlaki, American Smokehouse BBQ, Caribbean, Italian, Thai, Indian and Turkish evenings.
Rather than simply bringing in outside suppliers, Coastal Cruises Poole wants the series to showcase some of the fantastic independent food businesses already operating across Poole and the surrounding area.
Carol Scott, Managing Director of Coastal Cruises Poole, said:
“We’re always looking for new ideas and different reasons for people to get out on the water, and Street Food at Sea is one we’re really excited about.
“We have some absolutely brilliant independent caterers and street food businesses locally, so rather than looking further afield, we thought – why not invite them to come aboard?
“If your food has people queuing at festivals, markets and events, imagine serving it while sailing around one of the world’s largest natural harbours!
“We want each cruise to feel different. Great food, a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful views and hopefully some fantastic local businesses that our passengers might discover for the first time.”
A different way to experience Poole Harbour
Street Food at Sea will combine a leisurely cruise around Poole Harbour with a different food theme for each event, giving passengers the chance to enjoy flavours from around the world without leaving Dorset.
The concept follows Coastal Cruises Poole’s growing programme of special events and food-based cruises, which have proved increasingly popular with both local residents and visitors.
Carol added:
“Our captains and crew are already very enthusiastic about this idea – although we suspect that may have something to do with the amount of food involved!
“We want these cruises to be fun, informal and sociable. You come aboard, grab some fantastic food, enjoy a drink from the bar and watch Poole Harbour go by.
“For us, the exciting part is that no two Street Food at Sea nights need to be the same.”
Calling local caterers
Coastal Cruises Poole is particularly keen to hear from established caterers, street food traders, restaurants and independent food businesses interested in becoming part of the new series. As an idea we generally run on a minimum of 30 people and a maximum of 120!
The company is open to hearing from businesses specialising in cuisines from around the world and is also keen to discover ideas it may not yet have considered.
Carol said:
“We’ve got plenty of ideas, but we know there will be local businesses out there doing something completely different that we haven’t even thought of yet.
“So if you think your food would work on the water, we’d genuinely love to hear from you.
“And if you have a favourite local street food trader or caterer that you think should be involved, tell them about Street Food at Sea or tag them when you see our posts. We’d love this to become a real celebration of Dorset’s food scene.”
