Overwhelming community support took centre stage at the Twilight Walk, a shiny, sparkly fundraising walk in May which raised £13,080 for patients with breast cancer who have been supported by University Hospitals Dorset.
The uplifting event saw 213 participants walk shoulder to shoulder along the Bournemouth seafront in a dazzling display of support. Every stride taken and every pound raised will directly enhance the hospital experience – above and beyond standard NHS funding – for patients and their loved ones who have been treated across the Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Hospitals.
Dexter Perry, consultant surgeon for Breast Cancer Care at University Hospitals Dorset, said: “Seeing the sea of pink, sparkles and glitter at the Twilight Walk was incredibly moving, and this final fundraising total is truly wonderful. These funds will directly enhance how our breast cancer services support patients and their families. Breast cancer has a profound impact on individuals, their loved ones and our wider community. Everyone who took part in the Twilight Walk has been a beacon of support. Thank you all so much.”
Aurelia Chliwna, Public Fundraising Officer for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part in, supported or donated to the Twilight Walk. The sense of togetherness and determination on the night was unforgettable. Your generosity will make a lasting impact on patients supported by our breast cancer services at University Hospitals Dorset.”
In the past, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity funded state-of-the-art equipment to help with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, bras for people who have undergone mastectomy surgery and enhancements to patient areas across the hospitals.
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity extends heartfelt thanks to the fantastic Twilight Walk sponsors this year, Barchester Healthcare and Lester Aldridge solicitors.
Parisa Jones, partner at Lester Aldridge, said: “We were incredibly proud to both support and take part in UHD Charity’s Twilight Walk. It was a fantastic evening, bringing together so many people to raise awareness and vital funds for breast cancer services at University Hospitals Dorset. Seeing the local community come together in such a positive and uplifting way made it a really special event to be part of. The funds raised will make a real difference to patient care, and we are delighted to have played a small part in supporting this important cause.”
Michelle Venn, home services advisor at Barchester Healthcare’s Parley Place care home, said: “Being part of the Twilight walk for a second year was a special opportunity for our care homes here in Dorset to come together for an important cause. Continuing our support for this inspiring event reflects our commitment to support our communities and stand alongside those affected by breast cancer. The event was so well organised, and the atmosphere filled with positivity, warmth and a sense of togetherness.”
